Tips for Being Eco-Friendly

For the sake of our future, our children's future and our planet,
it's up to all of us to do what we can to help stop Global Warming.
Here's 9 simple things you can do at home
and how much carbon dioxide you'll save by doing them.

  1. Change a Light
Replacing one regular light bulb with one compact fluorescent light bulb will save 150 lbs of carbon dioxide a year.

  2. Drive Less
Walk, bike, carpool or take mass transit more often. You'll save one lb of carbon dioxide for every mile you don't drive!

  3. Recycle More
You can save 2,400 lbs of carbon dioxide each year by recycling just half of your household waste.

  4. Check Your Tires
Keeping your tires inflated properly can improve gas mileage by more than 3%. Every gallon of gasoline saved keeps 20 lbs of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere!

  5. Use Less Hot Water
It takes a lot of energy to heat water. Use less hot water by installing a low flow showerhead (350 lbs of CO2 saved per year) and washing your clothes in cold or warm water (500 lbs of CO2 saved per year).

  6. Avoid Products With a lot of Packaging
You can save 1,200 lbs of carbon dioxide just by reducing your garbage by 10%.

  7. Adjust Your Thermostat
Move your thermostat down just two degrees in the winter and up by two degrees in the summer. You could save 2,000 lbs of CO2 per year just with this simple adjustment.

  8. Plant a Tree
A single tree will absorb one ton of CO2 over its lifetime.

  9. Turn off Electrical Devices
Simply turning off your television, DVD player, stereo and computer when not in use will save you thousands of lbs of carbon dioxide each year.

And from Specialty Pool Products, here's several things you can do poolside to reduce emissions, save energy & chemicals, and promote a "greener" environment.

  1. Lower the temperature on your pool or spa heater by a few degrees, especially during peak-season.

  2. Consider a Solar Heating System to capture free heating energy from the Sun!

  3. Use Solar Blankets or Solar Sun Rings to heat water and retain warmth.

  4. Install a Sun Dome on your inground or aboveground pool to extend your swim season, heat pool water and air within the dome and reduce evaporation (less water loss; less use of chemicals).

  5. Install a Timer on your heater or heat pump - run your equipment only when you have to!

  6. Buy Low NOx equipment for energy efficiency and reduced emissions.

  7. Consider Alternative Sanitizers: Salt-chlorine, Ozone and Ionization systems are extremely energy efficient and use bather-friendly technologies for superior water quality that's less toxic, too.
