| Many pools require what we call "A-B" measurements.
This is easy to do once you understand the concept. From your
measurements we will custom design your cover on our computer.
Some pools are easier than others to "A-B". Rectangles
- Grecians - Ovals without stairs - Roman Ends - True L's
and Lazy L's - Rounds and Octagons do not need to be measured
with "A-B" measurements. For these pools you simply
choose
the appropriate shape on the front of the site. For custom
and freeform pools we need to get specific measurements. Here
Grecians-Ovals-True-L's-Lazy L's-Romans:Our website shows what these pools look like. Go to our "Quick Quote" section and see all the shapes we find to be the most popular. We also show you the measurements that are needed for specific shapes. Just follow these instructions and we can build a cover that will fit perfectly. Get the measurements close. Within an inch is great! This isn't rocket science. Safety covers have a generous overlap that allows you to maneuver the cover into position where it will fit. We do NOT need A-B's for these shapes.
For "Freeform" pools or pools with unusual perimeter accessories (rocks-planters-waterfalls) etc., we need to get the typical A-B measurements. Go to Step 1.
Step 1:
Establish "A-B" points on the long side of the
pool. Standing at the deep end looking at the shallow end
these points should be on the left side with the "A"
Point being furthest away and the "B" point closer to you.
Important: The "A" and "B" points should
be approximately 2/3rd's the length of the pool. Example:
If pool is 42' long - "A-B" points should be about
28' apart. It is okay to be 20' to 25' apart as well. Also,
make sure that the "A" and "B" points
are at least 4' away from the water's edge. The "A"
and "B" do not have to be the exact distance from
the pool. "A" could be 52" away and "B"
could be 64". The key is to choose a spot where it
is easy to place a stake in the ground. Note: The "A-B"
points cannot intersect the pool at any point (see diagram).
Wooden dowels, pipes, rebar or round metal stakes should
be driven into the ground to mark "A" and "B".
Step 2:
Begin to place chalk marks around the pool at specific points.
Start with a defining point on the pool closest to the Point
"A" stake. A corner or a point on a step works
well. These marks are at the water's edge on top of the
pool coping or cement deck. Mark this first point #1 and
continue in a clockwise manner marking points every 2 or
3 feet around the pool. Number every 5th mark; 1-6-11-16-etc.
On tight turns place these chalk marks even closer together,
about every 1 foot. Where there are defining points, or
changes in direction, put a mark at that point as well.
Again, these marks do not have to be measured exactly around
the pool so use your best judgment. A typical pool will
have 35 points. Larger pools may even have 60 points or
more. When ladders and handrails are not removable, you
will need to mark the number and location of the anchor
sockets. If you have an area where the concrete or wood
deck stops, say a planter or a boulder, you will need points
at the start and end of this area.
Step 3:
Measure the distance from Point / Stake "A" to
Point / Stake "B" and record on paper. Now begin
to measure from Point / Stake "A" to points 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-etc.
around the entire pool. Now measure from Point / Stake "B"
to the same points and record your measurements in ink.
Write them in the boxes and round up to the nearest inch.
Take a few diagonal, side-to-side and end-to-end measurements.
Example: Point 7 to Point 38 equals the longest length of
the pool. Point 2 to Point 22 equals the widest part of
the pool. Write these helpful dimensions on our form.
Step 4:
Draw a sketch of your pool and Fax it to us with your "A-B"
measurements. We will respond within 24 hours! We will also
Fax you our sketch of your pool at the time of order for
your signature approval.
Replacing an existing safety cover:
The easiest way to do this is to determine who manufactured the existing cover. We can get the drawing from that company and save you time. If the manufacturer is not known, we could use your old existing cover as a template. If that is not possible and you want the new anchor placement to be exactly what you had, we need to get the A-B measurements of the ANCHORS all around the pool. Simply set up the A-B points and get us those measurements. If you do this correctly, we can manufacture the cover precisely to fit existing anchor locations. |
