Why is spacing on a safety cover important?
Most standard rectangular safety covers are quoted with what is called 5' x 5' spacing. This means that the webbing and straps are spaced approximately 4' to 6' apart. For smaller pools and those not subjected to heavy snow loads, this is all you may need.
A better and stronger safety cover would be made with the webbing straps approximately 2'6" to 40" apart. This is commonly called 3' x 3' spacing. What this means is that you will get more straps to anchor into your patio. This also means that your cover can be subjected to unbelievable snow loads without concern. All free-form safety covers are made with the closer strapping. For obvious reasons, the pricing on the 3' x 3' spaced safety covers is higher than the 5' x 5' spaced safety covers. Below, is a guide as to the number of anchors for 3 popular rectangular sized in-ground pools.
