About Saunas & Steam Rooms

> Sauna & Steam : About Saunas & Steam Rooms
Poplar/Glass Modular Kit
Poplar/Glass Modular Kit

So, you want a sauna. You learn that there are 3 basic types. The traditional sauna, the steam room sauna, and the far infra-red sauna. It is great that you have decided to include a sauna in or outside your home. There are numerous benefits to sweating. I can speak from experience. I have been using an infra-red sauna for the past 2 years. I love it! I use it 5 times a week. I have lost weight, feel younger, and notice that my skin looks and feels better. We don't live in a clean world. There are thousands of products in the environment and food supply that can be toxic to certain people. A great way to reduce these toxins and metals is to sweat them out. The Finnish people have used this method for many centuries. The Indians used sweat lodges to make sick people healthy. Now, we all can begin to live longer and healthier lives by using these same time-tested methods. Let's discuss the 3 types of saunas and explain the differences.

Sauna InteriorTraditional Sauna, or Finnish sauna, pronounced sow (like now) nah, uses high heat and low humidity. This type of sauna uses rocks. The air temperature is usually between 180-220 degrees Fahrenheit. When you ladle water on the hot rocks, it produces water vapor, which is humidity. The body sweats to cool itself. Since the Steamm Generatorshumidity in this sauna is about 30-32%, the dry air absorbs the sweat. The higher the humidity, the less water or sweat the air can absorb, resulting in higher body temperatures.

Steam rooms have 100% humidity. The highest temperature you can have in a steam room is approximately 129 degrees Fahrenheit. Steam rooms must be made with a material such as granite, marble, acrylic, fiberglass, or ceramic tile. The material MUST be waterproof. A steam room has lower air temperatures than the traditional sauna, but a much higher humidity. The body cannot cool itself in a steam room because there is no evaporation. It has 100% humidity.

Far Infrared Sauna
Infra-core Far Infrared Radiant Sauna

Infra-red cabins use radiant energy as opposed to convection heat. Infra-red ambient temperatures are about 125-150 degrees Fahrenheit. This is why the infra-red saunas are more comfortable to be in. Sweating is produced by infra-red wave absorption. It is a penetrating heat-up. Water molecules absorb the infra-red wavelength and through resident frequency, the water molecule temperature is increased. Infra-red saunas are dry and there is zero humidity. Extremely safe to use.
