How a Solar Blanket works.
Solar Blankets are made from a film of thousands of tiny
bubbles, which work together to collect and retain heat in
your pool. The Solar Blanket floats on top of the water and
allows the solar energy to pass through, then traps it as
retained heat in the pool. It is also ideal as a thermal blanket
for heated pools.
How do they work?
Solar Blankets are designed to retain heat. Solar energy
(short wavelength) easily passes through the blanket. The
heat is retained in the water, which radiates at longer wavelengths.
It is restricted from readily dissipating into the atmosphere
due to the special design of the blanket (see diagram, right).
What do they do?
Solar Blankets will increase pool water temperature by 10
to 15 degrees and will reduce heating costs up to 75%. Pool
water stays warmer longer, therefore extending the swimming
season. Most heat loss in a pool is caused by evaporation.
A solar blanket will trap the heat in and reduce evaporation
by around 95% and will save up to 50% on pool chemical usage
while the pool is covered. The blanket also acts as a barrier
to prevent leaves and debris from entering the pool, thereby
reducing maintenance time. |

What we mean by (1) piece extruded material.
All solar blankets are made by sealing or stitching the solar material together to form the size and shape they need to fit the pool. One-piece extrusion does NOT mean that the entire solar blanket is made from one piece. Extruded material means that the solar material itself, where the bubbles are located, is made from homogenous blends of polymers and co-polymers in single layer formats. Most solar blankets are made by laminating two layers to form one. This is where you get delaminating and degradation of the material. Again, all solar blankets are made from rolls of material that is only so wide. The manufacturer has to sew or seal these sections together to make the appropriate size blanket. All our HPI solar blankets are made from extruded material and the sections are sew together using a black polyester material that will not rot or fray. |

and lightweight, fitting and storing the blanket becomes a
one person job.
Why buy a Solar Blanket from us?
ALL SOLAR BLANKETS ARE NOT THE SAME: Most of the solar blankets
we sell are made from extruded sheet. This essentially means
that the blanket material is one homogenous layer. Competitive
solar blankets, including the popular "Thermo-Tex" brand sold
at many pool outlets, are two pieces sealed together to make
one. This creates many opportunities for failure. Because
of the 2 piece sandwich structure, delaminating can occur
rapidly, especially when the water pH and total Alkalinity
balance is off. The SPP extruded blankets are far superior.
They will not delaminate! They come with the higher warranties
and 100% replacement guarantees. Extruded material is more
expensive than the typical economical blend. If you want a
solar blanket that is made from the same materials, the same
way original solar blankets were made, when they lasted for
many years, SPP has the one for you! Our large sealed air
bubbles go face down on the water for best results.
Warranty Information: Always wait at least 6 hours before using a Solar
Blanket on the surface of a pool that has been "shocked"
with chemicals. Always install Blanket with bubbles facing down towards
the water. When not in use, this product does not have to be covered
with an opaque cover, but should be stored in a shaded area, out of direct
sunlight.
