Important Winter Cover Information |
| |
The Two Basic Types Of Standard Winter Pool Covers
(Mesh & Solid)
Standard Winter Covers are protective "lay-on-the-water" Covers
designed for off-season use. They are available in
Solid or Mesh construction.
Standard Mesh Winter Covers
A mesh Winter Cover is simply a porous Cover
that lays on the pool surface and allows the rain and snowmelt to penetrate
through the Cover material and become part of your pool water. Instead
of using tap water, you save on natural resources by using Nature's water
to fill your pool! Mesh Covers are ideal for heavy snow areas (the reflective
coating speeds up the melting process allowing water to filter into the
pool, reducing pressure on the pool walls). Mesh Covers eliminate standing
water on the top of the Cover (which can be a perfect breeding ground for
mosquitoes). They are also a money-saving choice for regions where water
is allocated or costly (great for California and Colorado!). Mesh Covers
are generally lighter and easier to handle than Covers made from solid
vinyl material. This means an easier time getting the Cover on and off
your pool. In addition, mesh material is generally less expensive than
solid material.
*In order to reduce mosquitoes and other infectious insects, remove your
Winter Cover in early Spring.
Standard Solid Winter Covers
Solid Winter Covers provide just what their
name implies - a solid barrier that's placed on your
pool's surface during the winterizing process, that prevents water, debris
and other material from getting into your pool water while the pool is
closed for the season - so your pool water stays crystal clear all winter
long. Solid Covers also block sunlight from your pool - no sunlight means
no algae growth! Solid Covers are typically heavier and a bit more difficult
to handle, but spring clean up is significantly easier.
Solid Covers are usually also more expensive than their mesh counterparts.
With a Solid Cover, water is kept off the cover through either the use
of a drain panel (a mesh panel built into the Cover) or a cover pump. |

How To Order Your Winter Cover
Always order your
Winter Cover based on the size of your pool, not by
Cover size. Pool Covers are made larger than your swimming
pool to accommodate a drop in water level for winterizing
purposes, and to make sure there's enough Cover material
to go over the top rail or coping of the pool.
Aboveground Winter Covers come with a cable & winch
to secure the cover over the pool. Inground Winter
Covers have built-in loop straps so water tubes can
be placed around the perimeter as a means of anchoring.
You will need to know the shape and size of your pool
when you order your Winter Cover. Most Standard Winter
Covers are pre-made for the most commonly sized pools.
And SPP can make a special size for you, if a standard "in-stock" Winter
Cover just won't do. |

Standard Winter Cover Warranties
These days, we see
many catalogs and websites throwing around phantom
Winter Cover Warranties that don't mean anything. Unfortunately,
thousands of customers are duped each year into thinking
that a higher Warranty correlates to a higher quality
Winter Cover. True in some cases, but false in a host
of others. How can you protect your investment? Ask
the company you plan to buy from to email or fax you
the exact Warranty that will accompany the Cover you're
planning to purchase. Then read that Warranty and decide
if you feel that Cover is a good value! At SPP, we
have posted our written Warranties on our website for
you to view because we truly feel that an informed
buyer makes better decisions. If you have any questions
please contact us at 800-983-7665. |
